The ‘fat factory’ was discovered in Germany and its existence challenges previous assumptions about the cognitive capabilities of Neanderthals. Scientists believe that they were extracting bone marrow and fat from animal remains, with the residue found on artifacts at the site. This discovery supports the idea that Neanderthals had advanced food preparation techniques and it provides further insight into their material culture.
