Thimerosal, a mercury-based vaccine ingredient, has been subject to debate recently. It has been used as a preservative in some vaccines, including the flu vaccine, to help prevent bacterial contamination. While proponents argue that it is safe due to its long history of use and the lack of evidence showing harm, critics claim that it could pose health risks, including developmental disorders in children. Recently, the CDC’s vaccine panel voted against the use of thimerosal in flu shots. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) states there is “no evidence of harm” from thimerosal.
